Affinity Belonging Camp West 2.0
Defiant Joy Is Resistance
August 5 - 11, 2025
We Will Co-create & Share…
Somatic ancestral healing * Dance & play * Joyful consent *
Decolonizing ourselves in community * Music jams * Compassionate Presencing Circles * Being in the moment * Snuggle piles * Love pods * Sexual freedom * Liberation action plans to support our multi-year plan* Yummy multicultural food * Mutual care*
In these times we need each other more than ever. Our defiant joy in community is our greatest strength in the face of adversity.
Last year we had a magical mix of 70 campers, 65% of which identified as queer. The total included 35% PGM/BiPoC, 35% Trans/Non-binary, and 30% percent White/Cis allies. We expect a similar mix of participants for 2025.
This year's AB Camp West 2.0 will build upon the learnings from AB Camp 2024, and will also introduce some new somatic-based modalities to help embody the experience of liberation in a safer/braver space…
We will celebrate ourselves and our resilience in the joyful fullness of community…
We will co-create a space where we forge deep connections and strengthen our commitment to resistance through both collective liberation and individual growth and healing…
Stay tuned for Affinity Focus Days as part of the programming where we step into different ways and modes of being in the world as they are experienced by members of marginalized groups…
In this braver space, we can try unmasking a little more and practice being our most authentic selves in front of others who may be different, to better face the outside world…with greater resilience and defiant joy!
What is AB Camp?
AB Camp brings together people from diverse backgrounds into a space where deep connection and learning from each other can happen in beautiful and unexpected ways.
It is organized, led by, and designed for persons who identify as People of the Global Majority/BIPOC, and/or LGBTQIA+/Genderqueer folks, and their allies.
AB Camp is also for anyone who wants to learn to be a better ally and support those in marginalized groups.
Our intention is to co-create a decolonized space steeped in a shared commitment to social change.
** BIPOC - Black Indigenous People of Color
*** LGBTQIA+ - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, +
EARLY INVITES GO OUT IN APRIL, OPEN APPLICATION PERIOD STARTS MAY 1ST
(applicants notified of acceptance or waitlist status within 10 days of applying)
While AB Camps have limited spaces for folks who don’t primarily identify within our target groups, there is Liberation Lab June 29-July 2 especially (but not exclusively) for persons who identify as members of more privileged groups (e.g. white, heterosexual & cis-gendered).
We also strongly encourage anyone who did not attend AB Camp last year (or has not had basic anti-oppression training) to attend Liberation Lab or another similar event prior to attending AB Camp West 2.0.
Affinity Belonging Camps are co-sponsored by: Affinity-Belonging Initiative, New Culture Institute, and NFNC Summer Camp West
